Nan Goldin is dreamy

Nan Goldin consistently knows how to bring out the dreamy and the beautiful in the most tragic and ephermal moments. so intimate. i love her intimacy with her subjects. and love her images with water. (for a nice review on nan goldin check with the heart shaped bruise check out triplediesel.blogpot)

the "spiritual america" of cowboys, entertainers, over-ripe nurses

the other artist i liked at the whitney was richard prince. He had a series "spiritual america" with a demonic looking picture of young brooke shields a la jon benet. Somehow he seemed to understand the true nature of America. check him out and let me know what you think...
christian marclay
went to the whitney museum yesterday and by far the best piece in the museum was by artist christian marclay. It was a four screen projection where he had composed a whole symphony out of clips of old movies. No extra sound but that of the clips of old movies he projected. It seemed a mind boggling task to edit and construct. very impressive. truly original and well done. must look for for of his projects.

Language of pictures

Found a new artist, Marisol Limon Martinez. She has created her own language of pictures, she truly represents dreaming in pictures. On her site, I especially like "tribunals" and "descent of the line." There is a dark pulse to her work that resonates.
